Iridescent Sea Glass

Yesterday a young girl brought me a bag full of sea glass she had collected.
She wanted to trade the contents of it for a piece of jewelry.
Just the idea that she made such an effort to carry that extra bag all the way up to Forks, WA from CA  to trade for jewelry warmed my heart tremendously.
I looked in the bag and  it was quite a load of sea glass. I was quite pleasantly surprised to find that some of the sea glass seemed to have a shiny rainbow patina effect going on. It's what we call iridescence. I never saw it before on sea glass.  The term I read on the internet is called Benicia Iridescence. It's caused by the glass being in contact with harsh chemicals for a long period of time.

This is just a few of the pieces that have that iridescent patina.

Pretty special stuff

This pocky white piece is glass that has been burnt. It has very colorful reflections.

Making More Pendants

As I make more pendants, my technique keeps evolving. Ideas emerge while working. I love this cycle of creativity.  They may not be selling on Etsy like I hoped they would.  Sooner or later I will figure out the right venue that works the best for me. In the mean time, I keep on pursuing my dream: I keep on making and they are getting better.
I know I have to figure out how to make my own web site. Yet there are so many choices on providers,  shopping carts, e- commerce possibilities etc. etc. etc. To learn about all this just takes up so much of my creative time. Right now, for me, its time to wire wrap sea glass and develop that.  Here some of my latest pieces. These particular pieces showing in today's blog are not on Etsy. Contact me if you like them. If you want to buy one email me.

Sorting Sea Glass in the Sunshine

The sun was shining today, so I decided to sort some sea glass outside.
It wasn't too long ago, it seems, I was sorting it inside during the dreary winter.
Little batches of sea glass were collecting randomly around the house, in baggies on shelves, in little dishes and lids in my studio, wherever.  I rounded it all up and took it outside to sort and put away.
That way I could enjoy the warm sunshine (with shades, sunscreen and a hat of course) and get another task accomplished.

Here are some more of my lastest pieces. I have been getting new ideas, learning new techniques (by working out the ideas) making new designs and producing new creations.
Some of these are available on Etsy.
Some are still in the R&D zone (chuckles).
