A view of the activity going on inside the RAC during the Art Space Event sponsored by the Rainforest Council for the Arts

On April 18, 2015 the Rainforest ArtCenter in Forks, WA had its grand opening and dedication ceremony. For the story behind the RAC please follow this link.

Rainforest Council for the Arts  sponsored the Art Space event in the RAC on grand opening day. (read the president's report of the day's event)

The art space event had local artists set up and demonstrating throughout the main room of the new building while the public could come in and have a look around at the newly opened Rainforest Art Center.

Local artist Jeanette Gilmore demonstrating basket weaving and Flora Finley painting in the background

Beach-n-Bling staffed a kids' activity table loaded with beads donated by members of the community and helped kids design and create their own bracelets or necklaces. Once the day got rolling, kids were constantly at the table making jewelry until it was time to pack up and make room for the evening's events.

Happiness is...

Happiness is...

Happiness is finding a treasure where you'd least expect it.

Last week we went beach hiking on a beach near Kalaloch , WA. The weather has been such that the wind was blowing in straight from the west which means that stuff starts washing ashore. That means interesting beach hiking for beachcombers.
Normally I don't find sea glass on this beach. So I was pleasantly surprised to find some this time. Here are a few photos of the sea glass I found.

This piece of sea glass is a very unusual frosty "bluebonnet" blue.

First Sea Glass Haul of the Year

Today I am sharing with you my first sea glass haul of the year.

Since January 3, Beach-n-Bling has been in Texas for a longer visit.
Except for one day, it has been just as cold and damp as in Washington State. For some reason 45degrees  F feels colder in Texas than in the Pacific Northwest. What's up with that?

On Jan 12 we went to Galveston only to find a cold bleak beach. The next day we decided to leave and head north to Houston via Bolivar Island. We took the free ferry from Galveston to Bolivar Island just to see more beach.  Somewhere a year or so ago I researched finding sea glass in Texas and read that somewhere near Houston there was sea glass to be found. I didn't remember where, so I had some hope of finding sea glass and just followed my lucky instinct.

Lately, it has been much colder than normal in Texas. It was cold and miserable on the beach. I even had to wear pants over pants and bundled up with all that I had. On the Houston news they said its been below average cold the longest in recorded history.
We stopped for lunch at the Tiki Beach Bar and Grill on Bolivar Island, which was the only place open in 40 miles. I had a fairly decent gumbo. Then we started heading north on HWY 87. After a while we decided to just stop and take a look at the beach. This is how it looked. It had a lot of shells and random rocks and other stuff

The beach on Bolivar Island, TX went on and on like this.

Mixed in with all the shells and rocks there were pieces of sea glass to be found. I was so elated, that I didn't care about the cold anymore.

Me all bundled up with my haul on the beach.

Now for the good stuff:

This is what was in the bag.
